Tennessee’s American College of Physicians Honors Dr. Lee Schwartzberg For Outstanding Community Service
Memphis, TN- October 19, 2007 – Lee, Schwartzberg, MD, FACP, Medical Director for The West Clinic, was presented the 2007 American College of Physicians’ Award for Volunteerism and Community Service during the Tennessee Chapter’s 2007 Annual Session held in Chattanooga, October 12-13.Rev. G. Scott Morris, MD, Executive Director for the Church Health Center, nominated Dr. Schwartzberg for his dedication and fervent volunteerism at the Center. For over 15 years, Dr. Schwartzberg has provided compassionate treatment for thousands of working uninsured patients at the Midtown center. Treating not only cancer patients, but also patients with a wide-range of diseases including diabetes, and hypertension, Dr. Schwartzberg’s commitment to serve patients at the Church Health Center regardless of their inability to pay exemplifies Noblesse Oblige in the truest sense.

According to Dr. Morris, “The Church Health Center is able to care for almost 50,000 patients in Memphis. We are able to provide such quality care because of hundreds of volunteer physicians. Within the health care community there is no physician I know who has given back to the people of Memphis more than Dr. Lee Schwartzberg.”

Dr. Schwartzberg joined The West Clinic in 1987. He completed his Fellowship in Medical Oncology/Hematology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York where he also served as Chief Resident in Medicine. Dr. Schwartzberg attended medical college at the New York Medical College after receiving B.A. and M.S. degrees from State University of New York at Buffalo. Board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology, Dr. Schwartzberg holds medical licenses in Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi and New York.

Dr. Schwartzberg serves as Chairman of the Baptist Centers for Cancer Care’s Breast Cancer Research Committee and Cancer Genetics Program; Medical Director of the Myelosuppression Unit of Baptist Hospital; and President of the Accelerated Community Oncology Research Network.

A devoted family man, Dr. Schwartzberg and his wife are very active in their synagogue and the Memphis community.
